Project Details:This demure structure behind a historic house on a small lot includes a garage, a pool, a writers loft, a potting shed, storage, and rainwater harvesting cisterns. Working with site slopes, we created five different levels, three of them entirely or partially in the ground, and put low, single slope roofs sloping away from the house to keep the scale of the structure as small as possible. The many windows and doors tie the interior of this structure to the client’s much loved gardens. We matched the finishes on the original house to make the structure blend in to both the built and natural environments of the site.
